Crab and citrus salad with a Chardonnay dressing

The strongest flavours in this dish are the citrus flavours from the dressing (mostly grapefruit and orange peel) which really compliment the meatiness of the crab.

Suggested 3D Valentine’s wine:

Champagne Blanc des Blanc Grand Cru, Maison Lenique
RRP: £33.28

Our ultra-stylish luxury champagne looks and tastes very special. It is made in tiny quantities (just 100 cases for us) from old vine Chardonnay grown in the finest champagne village of all, Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger. The crisp, elegant citrus fruit and toasty richness combine beautifully with the crab.

If you prefer a still wine, then a lightly oaked Burgundy works wonders too. Try our Hautes Cotes de Beaune blanc ‘Les Larrets’ 2015 from Domaine Jacob. It combines gorgeous citrus and melon fruit with butter and spice and a smoky minerality.

Main Course

Braised ox cheek Wellington with a peppercorn gravy

This lovely puff pastry dish is full of flavour and will send your other half into ecstasy (assuming they are not vegetarian of course!). It’s a rich dish with the peppercorn sauce really showing through as the dominant flavour, together with the sweetness of the pastry and the tender texture of the meat. Unsurprisingly, it needs a powerful wine, so look to Bordeaux or the Rhône Valley and you can’t go wrong!

Suggested 3D Valentine’s wine:

Margaux Cuvée 3D 2013
RRP: £25.80

From the left bank in Bordeaux, you might like to try our prestigious Margaux Cuvee 3D 2013 from Château Mongravey. This Silver Medal winning Cru Bourgeois is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is a perennial favourite amongst 3D Partners. The smooth, juicy textures, creamy cassis and blackcurrant fruit and spicy oak will work wonders with this main course.

Our exclusive, award-winning Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015 from La Fagotiere is also a great match. It’s an organic blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre and has sweet almost jammy red and black fruits tinged with herbs, spice, pepper and liquorice and a firm tannic grip.

Chocolate, orange and Grand Marnier truffle cake

Well it is Valentine’s, so it has to be chocolate! However, chocolate is a tricky one to match with wine. High quality, dark, bitter chocolate can be matched to Port and fortified wines. Traditional sweet wines like Sauternes or Coteaux du Layon will not work.

Suggested 3D Valentine’s wine:

Gigondas 2014

Christine and Eric Saurel owners of the high-flying Rhône Valley estate Montirius, urge us to try their Gigondas 2014 with rich chocolate torte. Unusual, but it works! The pure, unoaked blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre has layers of deep damson and plum fruit. It is complex, smooth and well-rounded with a spicy, liquorice tang.
