Truffle Hunting at Domaine des Grands Devers
Catch some winter sun during our truffle hunting weekend. This is an exclusive event for our members hosted by our winemakers Domaine des Grands Devers in the Rhône Valley. Our base is the delightful Provencal hotel Les Méjeonnes, in Valaurie. Activities include visiting the largest truffle market in France as well as lunch (with wine) at the Domaine before embarking on our truffle hunt! Our evening meal Le Dîner de Prestige aux Truffes Noires, will include truffles in abundance. There will also be many well-matched vintages of the Bouchard’s wine served with an unforgettable meal.
Nowhere boasts a more interesting range of grape varietals than the southern Rhône. The flagship appellation is, of course, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, yet some of the best value wine is sold under the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages label.
The brothers work hard to protect the nature and typicité of their terroir through restoring a healthy organic life. Amongst the vines the family also nurture a plot of truffle oaks.
When Louis-Pascal mentioned the idea of an exclusive truffle hunting event for 3D Partners, we instantly bit his hand off!
Our base will be Les Méjeonnes, in Valaurie. We will dine there on Friday evening before the activities commence on Saturday.
The first port of call will be a visit to Richerenches for the largest truffle market in France. It markets 30% of the total truffle production in France with 200 – 800kg of truffles exchanged each week.
We then head to Domaine des Grands Devers for lunch before heading out for our hunt. On our first truffle hunting experience, we unearthed more than 30 truffles!
After the hunt, we join Louis-Pascal for a cup of truffle tea and a talk about how to prepare, store and cook truffles.
Our evening meal, Le Dîner de Prestige aux Truffes Noires, will include truffles in abundance! Naturally, many vintages of the Bouchard’s wine will be served with dinner.
Whilst in this striking region of France, we will also visit Montirius, a 58-hectare domaine, spread out over the beautiful countryside around Gigondas and Vacqueyras, where the ever-present Dentelles de Montmirail offer an amazing backdrop to the vines. Here the Saurel family cultivate their vines and wines under strict biodynamic principles. Eric & Christine then join us for lunch at one of their favourite restaurants close by.
