Côtes du Rhône rosé, Rhône Valley - My 3D Vines

This is a new vineyard for us, from winemakers we have been working with for very many years. It comes from a six-hectare plot of Cinsault and Grenache vines situated close to the famous appellations of Vacqueyras and Gigondas.

Young winemaker Justine Saurel of Montirius makes for Partners an organic and biodynamic rosé that offers freshness, balance and delicate red berry fruit and fragrance. With just 12% alcohol, it’s a very digestible rosé.

The vines & wine

The Côtes du Rhône appellation is effectively a huge swathe of vineyards throughout the southeast of France roughly between Montelimar and Avignon. Most of the wines are red, but there is some rosé and white made from vines based on Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan and Mourvedre. The wines can be juicy and spicy and very well made on the whole.

The Cinsault and Grenache vines that produce our super biodynamic rosé are situated in a vineyard parcel called La Muse Papilles, not far from Gigondas.

Justine, the eldest daughter of Christine and Eric Saurel at Montirius, searched for a vineyard of her own seven years ago. It proved to be no easy task as she wanted to buy one in good condition that was already certified organic.

The plot she found is just under 6ha in size with what Justine describes as ‘perfect’ subsoil for her old Cinsault and Grenache vines. The plot is surrounded by olive trees – Justine makes her own organic and biodynamic olive oil too – and it has a magnificent backdrop of the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mount Ventoux close by.

A delightful place to work and visit!

The region

This beautiful, sun drenched region down in the southeast corner of France has to be one of the most beautiful in all of France – and there is plenty of competition!

It boasts a rich history, with many incredibly historic monuments, towns and villages to visit. It is also full of wonderful gastronomic experiences which somehow seem so well matched to the rich, opulent and spicy wines for which the area is so famous for.

Top appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau and Cairanne are but a few of the great names to look out for on the label.

It’s mainly red wine country of course, but there are increasingly brilliant whites, rosés, sparkling and sweet wines made. They offer great value drinking too.
