A privileged insight into this beautiful, mystical region.
This event is a pilgrimage to the ancient wine region of Burgundy. It is the gastronomic heart and soul of France. We will feast magnificently, as well as sample many of the great wines of the region. We also meet some of the splendid characters who make our much-admired wines – and bring them alive as they talk passionately about them!
Our base will be the historic town of Beaune where we stay at the delightful Hôtel de la Cloche – a 16th Century former coaching inn.
On Thursday evening, following introductions and aperitif, we head for the atmospheric Caves de l’Abbaye, a 12th-Century wine cellar. Here we meet an affable bunch of 3D vignerons and enjoy their wines, and their company, during dinner.
Friday morning we travel by coach to visit the world-famous Tonnellerie François Frères for a fascinating tour and demonstration of the intricate art of barrel making. Literally, from tree to finished barrel – we see the whole process!
We then head back to Beaune for a little free time to explore this stunning town and enjoy a spot of lunch before taking a coach to the world-renowned appellation of Meursault.
Our engaging winemaker Vincent Désertaux meets us in his small, but beautifully-formed Premier Cru vineyard for an ‘in the vines’ tasting before heading for his domaine for a special tour and tasting of his brilliantly made wines.
In the evening we dine at the excellent Restaurant Caveau des Arches in Beaune.
Saturday we head off to the delightful hamlet of Échevronne, home to the Jacob family. Guided by Jean-Michel Jacob he talks us through a very special tasting of some of their top wines in their ancient cellars. We then enjoy a lovely picnic overlooking the Les Larrets vineyard with Jean-Michel and Christine accompanied by their delicious wines.
In the evening we continue to enjoy fine Burgundy gastronomy with a relaxing, light dinner at Le Conty in Beaune.
INCLUDES: 3 nights’ accommodation, dinner (with wine) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings; picnic lunch (with wine) on Saturday; all wine tastings, activities and coach transport on Friday and Saturday.
